How to Make Your Hair Smell Good All Day
Who doesn’t want healthy hair that smells gorgeous all day?
We all do.
So let’s see what we can do about it.
Every day things that you use on your hair will get dirty with pollution and hair care products. To avoid transferring the smell to your hair when is clean is essential to keep these accessories clean.
Below are 10 tips to help you maintain your hair clean and smelling good for longer.
1. Keep your hair’s comb and brush always clean
Clean your hair comb and brush at least once a week to prevent them from gathering dirt. It is also best to avoid sharing your comb or brush.
2. Avoid smoke
This tip is a no brainer. Smoke is bad news for your hair if you want to keep it smelling fresh all day. If you smoke or are around people who smoke your hair will get that awful smokey smell.
3. Maintain your hair’s accessories clean
Wash any accessory that you use on your hair including headbands, hairpins, handkerchiefs, hats and rubber bands. Keep also your pillowcases clean at all times.
4. Working environment
When I was younger I used to work in a kitchen and my clothes and hair smelled like food at the end of the day. Awful! If you are in the same situation pick something to cover your hair but first spray a fragrance of your choice inside it.
5. Heat protector
Before using hot tools apply a natural heat protector product. This will not only keep your hair shielded from the heat but will also ensure that your hair smell good after straightening it and drying it.
If you love the smell of your hair serum add few drops to the heat protector to propagate the smell all over your hair.
6. Use a leave in conditioner
Probably you already use a natural leave-in conditioner but if you don’t just buy one with a long-lasting aroma of your choice. This will prevent your hair from smelling burnt.
For a deep hair conditioning treatment that will also accentuate the smell leave the conditioner overnight.
7. Use dry shampoo (the lazy way)
For those days when you need to wash your hair but don’t have the time or you just can’t be bothered use an organic dry shampoo. It will revive your hair and give you a lovely smell.
8. Use your perfume or body mist
Spray your favorite perfume or body mist on your comb before using it on your hair.
9. Use a hydrating hair fragrance
These days you can buy hair mists with a great range of aromas. I love fresh smells with citrus hints. This one from Amazon has good reviews.
10. Dry your hair thoroughly
If you wash your hair before bedtime make sure to dry it thoroughly. Going to bed with your hair still moist is not a good idea because a damp scalp can promote fungi which can make your hair and pillowcase smell bad.

1. Homemade Shampoo for Great Smelling Hair
1 – You can make your own shampoo with ingredients that smell divine.
This homemade shampoo will do just that.
This recipe use ingredients that are effective to keep hair healthy but I have also added two essential oils because I love their smell.
This is where you can add your own touch and pick a couple of ingredients just because you like their smell.
Check this list of essential oils you can add to your shampoo for a great aroma:
They are most effective when they work in tandem with certain hair categories. Generally speaking, lavender, carrot seed and rosemary are beneficial for all hair types. If hair is dry, chamomile, rosewood and palmarosa serve as moisturizing agents. Oily hair is balanced by lemongrass, patchouli, sage, cypress and cedar-wood, while geranium, spearmint, tea tree and juniper soothe the scalp and treat the itching and flaking associated with dandruff – Source
What you need:
- 1 bottle of liquid neutral soap such as Castile
- 1 fresh aloe vera leaf
- lavender essential oil
- Bulgarian rose essential oil
- vitamin e oil
- mineral water (1 litre)
Note: I use a fresh aloe vera plant to make this recipe because fresh is always best. If you don’t have one you can use organic aloe vera gel but try to make it with the plant and you will notice the difference.
This is how to extract aloe vera gel from the plant:
Cut away the end bit of the leaf and leave it for 10 to 15 mins for the yellow liquid to be drained away and wash it clean.Source
Use a peeler and peel off one side of the skin.
With a knife, make slits horizontally and vertically.
Use a spoon and scoop out the Aloe Vera gel into a bowl.
Put all Aloe Vera bits into a blender and blend at low speed for about 30secs.
Once it turns into a frothy white liquid, pour it into a container and store in the fridge to keep its freshness. Use within 2 weeks at most.
How to make it:
1. Cut one small aloe vera leaf draining the yellow liquid (see above)
2. Peel and scoop the gel with a spoon
4. Mix the aloe vera gel with Castile soap. Remove well.
5. Add 10 drops of lavender oil and 10 drops of rose essential oil.
6. Add 1 teaspoon vitamin e.
7. Mix all ingredients very well and transfer to a bottle.
8. Shake well before each use and keep it in the fridge.
Make small batches if you are not going to use it frequently. If you decide to make larger batches store in the fridge for about 2 weeks or until you notice a rancid smell.

Just add 1 or 2 essential oils of your choice to your usual shampoo. You can also add them to your hair conditioner.

Place a spoon of flax seeds in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Keep stirring until the water obtains the consistency of a gel.

Add the oils to the flax seed gel and remove well.
Use it as a conditioner after you wash your hair or as a hair mask before you wash your hair.
If used as a conditioner leave on for 5 minutes while you shower.
