I LOVE these sugar scrub cubes without soap!

I like them even better than the lemon and orange sugar scrub cubes I did with soap because they are not as hard and I find them easier to rub on the skin.

I made this recipe as an experiment to see if the cubes could hold their shape without the help of soap. And it has worked really well.

I have made one batch using Shea butter and another one with cocoa butter. The ones I made with cocoa butter are firmer and hold their shape better. The sugar scrub cubes made using Shea butter are softer and perhaps are best kept in the fridge.

The sugar granules will exfoliate the skin leaving it smoother, moisturized and smelling divine.

Shea Butter Sugar Scrub Cubes Recipe

These cubes are made with Shea butter and lavender essential oil.

I have used Shea butter because is a superb moisturizer and healer. These exfoliating sugar cubes are perfect for those with dry and rough skin. I love using them and I don’t even need to use a body lotion because the skin is perfectly moisturized.

Ingredients:

60 gr Shea butter (find it here)
60 gr sweet almond oil (get it here)
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)
200 gr granulated white sugar
15 drops lavender essential oil (buy it here)
Purple colorant (cosmetic grade)

How to make it:

Melt Shea butter in a double broiler or water bath. Add sweet almond oil, vitamin E oil and a small amount of purple colorant. Stir until is well incorporated.

Add lavender essential oil and stir again. Lastly add the sugar and stir until it integrates with the rest of the ingredients. Pour it into the molds. If you want the cubes to harden faster, place them in the freezer for about 10 minutes.

Make sure they are firm before unmolding or they will crumble. Cut them in small cubes and store them in the refrigerator in a container/jar with lid.

Rose Sugar Scrub Cubes Recipe

Ingredients

60 gr deodorized cocoa butter (check this one)
60 gr sweet almond oil (I like this one)
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)
200 gr granulated white sugar
20 drops rose essential oil
Pink colorant (cosmetic grade) (I use this one)

Make these cubes in the same way as the other ones. The only thing you have to change is the Shea butter for cocoa butter and the lavender essential oil for rose. And, of course, the pink colorant.

I like cocoa butter but I find its scent too overpowering. In this recipe I can’t hardly smell the aroma of rose essential oil and only for this reason I would recommend buying deodorized cocoa butter.

After melting the cocoa butter, add the almond oil, vitamin E oil and the pink colorant. Stir.

Keep adding the rose essential oil and sugar. Stir until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Pour it into molds (like these ones) and place in the freezer for few minutes.

Once the mixture is firm, unmold and cut it into small cubes.

Now they are ready to use. I hope you like them as much as I do!

How to Use Them

Some people wonder if they can exfoliate the face with sugar scrub cubes. Personally I haven’t used them yet, but I guess you could. I will moisten the cube to make smaller pieces and then very gently rub the face with it. Don’t use on your face if you have sensitive skin or any skin condition (rosacea, acne, etc).

Actually this is the exact same way I use them in the body, the only difference is that I rub more vigorously.

Since these sugar scrub cubes are softer that the ones I made using soap I like to keep them in the fridge in a container with lid.
