How to Clean A Really Messy Bedroom Fast
Help, my bedroom is a real mess! Is this sound like you don’t worry. I have gathered a step by step cleaning routine that will help you keep your room tidy and organized.
If you want to make it fun play your favorite music and dance to the tune while you clean.
# Step 1: Put everything back to its place
One of the reasons why your room looks messy is because everything is strewn all over.
To undo this mess, begin by getting rid of everything that does not belong in the bedroom. For this task, you will need a laundry basket or a medium sized box. Move around the room and do not forget to look under the bed.
Do not be bothered about what goes into the laundry basket. As long as it does not belong in the bedroom, toss it into the basket, get the basket out of the bedroom, and move on to the next step.
✅ Check these selection of laundry baskets for this task:
# Step 2: Organize every other thing into groups
Having been left with only what belongs in the bedroom, now arrange everything according to its kind.
Group dirty clothes separately from the clean ones, pile the shoes together and move on like that.
Make sure nothing is grouped with non-common items. These groups of items will be easier to organize, and it will take less time to get it done.
# Step 3: Work on the Grouped Items
Move from one pile to another, and do not move to the next until you are done with the former.
Start by moving the whole pile of dirty clothes to the laundry room.
Next, work on clean clothes. You know how you arrange your clothes.
Do not postpone folding and hanging clean clothes because this will turn your room into a mess all over again, and much sooner than you think.
Now go and get the trash can for the next step.
# Step 4: Pick up all trash and toss it into the trash can
Since most or all items have left the floor and other surfaces, it will be pretty easy to collect trash.
Cruise around the room collecting obvious trash and toss it into the trash can.
Take the waste basket out and as you hurry back to the bedroom, carry the vacuum cleaner or broom with you but leave it at the door for now.
✅ Need a trash can for the bedroom? Take a pick at these options:
# Step 5: Check all surfaces to ensure they are free of “stuff”
Before you sweep and vacuum or mop your room, check to see if there is anything else just sitting around.
You might notice some items that need to be moved elsewhere. Clear all surfaces including the floor.
You might want to use a damp cloth to wipe the dust off furniture and desks if you have any.
Make sure there is nothing on your bed apart from what belongs on it.
# Step 6: Now sweep and vacuum or mop the room
I trust that you do not have the time to deep clean your room, so you are allowed to do what I call a run through.
If the room was not so dirty, don’t bother sweeping, just mop or vacuum the floor. You don’t want any dust settling on your bedding as you hurriedly sweep the floor.
# Step 7: Make the bed
Please note that it does not matter how clean your bedroom is. If the bed is not made, the room is still in a mess.
After taking care of every other thing, finish your fast clean routine by making the bed. Replace the sheets and leave the bed looking clean and neat.
If your concern was a clean bedroom, there you have it.
If, on the other hand, you want a clean and organized bedroom, then the next segment is yours.
How to Organize a Messy Bedroom
It is one thing to have a clean bedroom, and it is another to have a clean and organized room.
Here is how to organize your bedroom to keep it looking neat and manageable. You will notice that cleaning an organized room takes much lesser time.
1. Make Use of All Drawers
I shouldn’t have to mention this one but if you are disorganized by nature you will probably leave your clothes in the first place that falls (like my teen son). This is a no-no if you want to keep your bedroom tidy and free of clutter.
Use the drawers to put all small sized garments and other small items too. Is a good idea to designate certain drawers for specific types of items. Do not mix socks with underwear or jewelry.
Use the topmost drawers to keep the items you use frequently.
Other items should go into lower and deeper drawers. This will prevent fumbling in the wrong places looking for something when you are in a hurry.
2. Have a Basket for Your Throw Pillows
I love this idea! I have a basket for bed pillows in my room and I think every bedroom should have one to keep throw pillows and extra blankets at night.
Resist the temptation to throw these on the floor when you are going to bed because they might get dirty and you will probably not remember to pick them up the following morning.
✅ Have a look at these selection of baskets for your blankets or pillows:
3. A Bedroom Trash can and Laundry Basket
Have a small trash can in the bedroom at a place where you can always see it, and train yourself to use it.
While it might work to install a few hooks on the inside of the closet door, keeping a medium sized laundry basket in the room helps a lot too.
Never allow clothes to lie around your chair, table or bed. Having them in the laundry basket will as well remind you to wash your clothes regularly.
4. Make Use of a Shoe Rack
If you are the kind of person who owns a million and one pairs of shoes, you should purchase a good shoe rack. Shoe racks are one of the best ways to store your shoes because they are always handy.
Arrange your shoes in order so that the ones that are frequently used can stay in the top racks while the rest sleep at the bottom or behind your favorite shoes.
✅ If you need storage for your shoes check these great selection of shoe racks:
5. Keep Your Closet Organized
Keeping your closet organized will make easier to find things when you are in a hurry. Keep the items you wear the most in sight.
I have a designated place only for trousers. Then another one for dresses/skirts and another one for tops and jackets.
I also like to arrange the items by color and size.
Keep all your jumpers folded.
If you have too many belts, scarfs or ties get a hanger to keep then neat and easy to find.
✅ Check these are top rated hangers to keep your closet organized:
If you have place on your closet keep your shoes on their boxes or buy a small shoe rack to keep them tidy.
Anther great way to storage things you don’t know where to put is using a hanging door organizer or boxes. The boxes can go underneath your bed or on top of the wardrobe.
Make a habit of hanging your clothes every time you change them. Or if they need to be washed put them into the laundry basket. This way your room will be free of clutter and easier to clean.

Extra Tips for Cleaning a Messy Bedroom
- Cleaning and organizing your bedroom should be something that you enjoy to do. If you do not derive any fun cleaning your bedroom or any other room in your house, try working along the tune of your favorite music. This trick works wonders for me.
- I also have a trick to keep your bedroom smelling fresh for longer. Add few drops of lavender essential oil on the water and wipe the surfaces of your bedroom with this. It will leave the room smelling great, and it actually can encourage you to clean the bedroom more often. Don’t like lavender? Try the essential oil of your choice.
- Another way to keep your room smelling good is to place scented dry flowers in bowls or sachets. They will make any room smell gorgeous. I love lavender scents and this dried French lavender will provide a sense of calm and relaxation too.
- It is also good to let the air in. Open the bedroom windows when you get out of bed in the morning to let the cool and fresh morning air in. Do not, however, forget to shut the windows before you leave the house.
